Fuller’s Pub Giant Reports 21.6% Surge in Festive Sales, Demonstrates Resilience Amid Economic Challenges

Fuller’s, the renowned pub giant headquartered in Chiswick, owner of the local pubs, The Old Pack Horse and George V, reports a substantial boost in sales, marking a remarkable 21.6% surge during the festive season encompassing Christmas and New Year. With a vast portfolio comprising 370 venues across the UK, Fuller’s attributes this impressive growth to stellar performances observed in both its pubs and hotels.

This surge in sales emerges amidst a backdrop of encouraging trends within the hospitality sector, as competitors like JD Wetherspoon and Marston’s similarly unveil positive upswings in their holiday sales figures. Despite prevailing economic headwinds and the looming challenges posed by the escalating cost of living, customers have demonstrated a resilient spirit, embracing the joy of festive celebrations and dining out.

Simon Emeny, Fuller’s Chief Executive Officer, expresses satisfaction at the company's robust performance, acknowledging the collective efforts of the dedicated team members whose unwavering commitment ensured a memorable experience for patrons throughout the holiday season. Emphasizing the company's resilience and promising trajectory, Emeny affirms, "The business is in great shape."

Beyond the festive fervor, Fuller’s underscores its sustained growth momentum, with like-for-like sales marking an impressive 11.5% uptick for the fiscal year, spanning 42 weeks until January 20. However, Emeny remains cognizant of imminent challenges, including anticipated increases in the national living wage and business rate property taxes. Nonetheless, Fuller’s remains undeterred, buoyed by its strategic initiatives aimed at fostering growth and enhancing the customer experience.

Among these initiatives, Fuller’s highlights its forthcoming investment schemes tailored to enrich its existing estate, thereby fortifying its position and capitalizing on the current momentum. As Fuller’s shares ascend by 1.7% to 698p in early trading, the company looks ahead to its forthcoming full-year results update slated for June, poised to further illuminate its enduring success story in the competitive hospitality landscape.
