2 Major Stores Coming to Eldon Square Shopping Center Amid Partnership with Local Council

Sephora and Next are gearing up to expand their presence in Newcastle's Eldon Square later this year, with plans for new store openings. This move comes as the shopping center's landlord unveils a fresh partnership with the local council aimed at expediting planning applications.

Next has inked a ten-year lease to occupy a sizable 61,000 sq ft space within the former Debenhams unit, slated to debut in November. Meanwhile, beauty giant Sephora is poised to introduce its flagship store spanning 6,600 sq ft, marking its fourth establishment in the UK.

Eldon Square disclosed that the collaboration with Newcastle City Council is intended to "accelerate and facilitate the delivery of a series of major new leasing deals," while also benefiting the city center and the local community. The initiative aims to enhance Eldon Square's offerings by diversifying its mix of brand partners beyond traditional retail, incorporating leisure, and entertainment options, totaling over 200,000 sq ft.

Moreover, this partnership is anticipated to generate up to 500 job opportunities, providing a boost to the local economy. Pete Cooper, the director of Eldon Square, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "With these deals, Eldon Square consolidates its position as a Premier League player in Newcastle city center." He emphasized the collaboration's role in advancing ambitious growth plans swiftly and expanding the leisure and entertainment landscape of the city center.

Cllr Nick Kemp, leader of Newcastle City Council, hailed the development as a testament to the city's appeal for global retailers and a vote of confidence in its retail sector. He stressed the positive impact of these new store openings, anticipating increased foot traffic, job creation, and economic stimulation. Kemp reiterated the council's commitment to collaborating with partners to foster inclusive economic growth, ensuring benefits for all residents of Newcastle.
